Sophie Deschamps About

I am a mother

For my children
my compass forward, keepers of tomorrow.

Memories are now all about stepping stones to the future, creating layers of life, connection, heart and colour for my children to remember. Their heartbeats. To live every moment forever.

Expedition Guide Sophie Deschamps

I am a guide

For you, traveller, at intersections of worlds,
keeper of wonder.

For Black Feather, I guided multiple sea kayaking expeditions on the East Coast of Greenland, and Floe Edge trips North of Baffin Island. I guided dogsled adventures in Québec and have been guiding on expedition cruise ships in Antarctica since 2016.

I am an artist

For us,
may we move with ecocentrism, remembering we belong
not above the Earth but within.

Through photographs, drawings, and nautical-chart explorations, I trace the deep relationships that connect all life.

Photographer Sophie National Parks

I am a photographer

For the polar wilderness
my fiercest anchor, keeper of truth.

Photography is how I listen to land, light, and the quiet truths that move between them. For Parks Canada, I am the Photography Specialist, documenting National Parks, Historic Sites and Marine Conservation Areas in the hope that my storytelling through images can inspire others to make changes to protect and preserve our wilderness and Indigenous cultures.

My art blends skill, authenticity, and reverence to help travellers turn their journeys into lasting, Tangible memories.

I value authenticity, turbulence, interconnectedness and above all, ecocentrism.

May the environment be at the centre of every decision, the priority centered in the wellbeing of our ecosystems.

My work is anchored in the white silence and fierce vastness of Antarctica

Sophie deschamps guide

Soph(ie) Descham(ps)

A place where the purity and scale of life humbles the human gaze.

As a guide, I have stood at the edge of ice and sea, witnessing a world that exists entirely on nature’s terms. Each piece begins on a nautical chart: a record of human navigation layered with my drawings, inspired by moments in the polar wilderness.

This meeting of our maps with the land’s truths is a quiet act of reverence, an acknowledgment that we are not the center of the story, but part of something immeasurably larger.

Ecocentrism is the core, asking us to see the world through the wellbeing of all life, to honor the whale’s migration as deeply as our own journeys, the quiet resilience of lichen on a rock, the patient work of the wind shaping snow, to recognize the penguin’s path across the ice as a vital line in the Earth’s living map.

My art is both compass and anchor: to remember the pull of the poles and the elevating perspective they offer, holding us steady in the memory of Antarctica’s potency. In a changing world, these charts are reminders that the guidance we most need may be the contour lines that lead us back into right relationship, with each other, and with the planet itself.

"Stay weird and be kind."

“These words from Sophie Deschamps were at the heart of her CreativeMornings journey talk. Reflecting on both the personal and physical journeys that have shaped who she is today, she left us inspired to embrace authenticity, compassion and the imperfections on our creative paths.”
